Some Updates from the Clearinghouse

WAC Repositorypublishes its first article.的editors of theWAC Repositoryare thrilled to announce the publication of “FAQs about Language and Linguistics in Writing,” by Laura Aull and Shawna Shapiro. Laura Aull is an Associate Professor and Writing Program Director at the University of Michigan, and Shawna Shapiro is an Associate Professor at Middlebury College. This peer-reviewed article explores how rhetoric, linguistics, and writing intersect and diverge, overlap and interact through a series of three frequently asked questions: “What does linguistics add to rhetorical approaches to writing? What linguistics insights might be most useful for writing teachers and researchers? How can linguistics help us to work more effectively and equitably with student writers?” Read the full articlehere.

WAC Clearinghouse announces four new scholar fellowship recipients.的WAC Clearinghouse is delighted to announce its inaugural fellowship recipients for 2023-2024.

  • Hannah Locher, a doctoral student at The Ohio State University, is the recipient of the Susan H. McLeod New Scholar Fellowship. Locher will be working with theAcross the Disciplineseditorial team to update theATDstyle guide.
  • Macy Dunklin, a doctoral candidate at Texas A&M University, is the recipient of the Will Hochman New Scholar Fellowship. Dunklin will create and oversee a special section on WAC and Adult Learners in的WAC Journal’sregular issue and arrange a mini conference around the topic of the special section to help promote the journal.
  • Leah Heilig, an assistant professor in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at the University of Rhode Island, is the recipient of the Charles Bazerman New Scholar Fellowship. Heilig will work with theReference Guides to Rhetoric and Compositionseries to design and circulate a survey to explore the themes and approaches to narrating the field that readers would like to see in the series.
  • Stephie Minjung Kang, a doctoral student at Michigan State University, has been awarded an editorial fellowship to work with theInternational Exchanges on the Study of Writingbook series. Kang will develop an edited collection for the series.

的WAC Clearinghouse Fellowships, which are either six- or 12-month appointments, were generously funded by donors and were created to provide opportunities for new and early career scholars who are interested in expanding their editorial and administrative experience through involvement in one or more of ourpublishing venues.

Journal of Basic WritingReleases a New Issue.Volume 42, Issue 1, a special issue on "Democracy and Basic Writing," commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of open admissions. Edited by Jack Morales and Lynn Reid, the special issue includes work by Annie S. Mendenhall, Joyce Olewski Inman, Alison Cardinal, Kirsten Higgins, Anthony Warnke, and Tom McNamara.View the new issue.
